The A$ dollar has been down now its up....importers of Boats, Cars, Motorhomes, RV's, heavy equipment...in fact even the low price commodity items have been high in demand...Its simple our dollar buys more...Its a great time to import..even a one off ... maybe that boat you have dreaming of.
I actually saw on an US boat website that a similar boat here was about $A50K whilst selling in the USA for USD$28K...now thats gotta be good buying...Same goes for cars...we have imported a huge amount of cars when the dollar was at A$0.75...at A$0.92+ its almost a 25% saving......wow!
We have seen companies go down and out this year...maybe greed...maybe bad management..its has been tough to manage though with so many variables changing this year and without any real warning....They say Australia has not experienced the recession....hum bug...good old lets fool everyone....Not too many people in our industry are hiring!...In fact there are a lot of redundancies...
The core to Australian economy is still small business...and whilst the government concentrates on giving away T.V's and spending our future earnings on a stimulus package that does nothing for small business..well god help this country.
Exporters are in a bit of trouble right now..at $0.92...how can they compete with the rest of the world when our dollar has gone up 25%...??? Another government oversight ...whilst the big guys may be able to factor this in or have large legal contracts that cover them for such things...I am sure the small guys dont...
Shipping....throughout this year ...we have seen rates at all time highs and all time lows.
We have seeen shipping lines take vessels off routes...due to not enough cargo...and then keep it that way when there is too much cargo...No space on ships ...lets lift the prices they say...The dollar goes up...lets lift the prices they say.....Well again if you are buying a product for 25% less than when the dollar was low...and your product cost USD100K...you are saving $25K!!! Not too worried about shipping prices going up $1000 are you...and the Shipping lines know it.
